Driver's licence card number

The card number is a unique number added to a new version of driver licence in Australia.

From 1 September 2022 you need to enter the card number when verifying a driver licence using the Digital Verification Service(DVS).

The position of the card number for each State and Territory is described below.

Tasmania

The card number is on the back in the top right hand corner.

Victoria

The card number is on the back just above the licence expiry date.

New South Wales

The card number is on the front in the top right hand corner.

Queensland

For a licence issued after 12 June 2019 the card number is on the front down at the bottom in the middle.

For a licence issued before 12 June 2019 the card number is on the back in the bottom right hand corner.

South Australia

The card number is located on the back in the top right hand corner.

Western Australia

The card number is located on the back in the middle and to the right.

Northern Territory

For a licence issued after 1 November 2020 the card number is on the back at the bottom in the middle.

For a licence issued before 1 November 2020 the card number is on the back in the bottom left hand corner.

Australian Capital Territory

The card number is on the front, beside your photograph.
