The Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) Scheme is expanding, to strengthen the protections in place for vulnerable people, including children.
Expanding the RWVP Scheme will close the gaps in child-related activities and include new protections for broader categories of vulnerable adults.
- removing the 7-day exemption and emergency management worker exemption
- introducing new regulated activities to protect new categories of vulnerable people
- introducing nationally consistent aged care worker registration during 2026 (subject to a national agreement currently under development).
This phased approach will allow for more in-depth community consultation. It will also allow the Tasmanian scheme to align with changes happening nationwide. This is to ensure successful implementation in line with community expectations.
Outcomes of the RWVP Expansion Project include:
- better protections for children and vulnerable adults in Tasmania
- improved safeguarding controls for employers, workers and volunteers working with vulnerable people
- a new online platform and registration system
- a secure and enhanced web portal for employers, workers and volunteers. This will make it easier to manage registrations and their obligations under the scheme
- enhanced information sharing capability between the scheme and reporting bodies.
