Regulated activities

What is a regulated activity?

A regulated activity is an activity or service that involves working or volunteering with vulnerable people, including children.

If a worker or volunteer wants to work in a regulated activity that involves regular contact with vulnerable people, including children, they must hold registration to work with vulnerable people (RWVP).

Sectors that provide a regulated activity or service include:

  • Education
  • Child and youth services
  • Disability services (delivered through the National Disability Insurance Scheme)
  • Transport
  • Childcare
  • Religious
  • Clubs and associations
  • Coaching and tutoring
  • Legal services
  • Child-related commercial services.

For legal definitions of each regulated activity, read the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Regulations 2024.

There are also exemptions from registration that apply in certain circumstances.
