Do you work or volunteer with people with a disability under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Tasmania?
Then you may (if your employer or NDIS participant requests it) need to apply for a RWVP with a NDIS Worker Screening Check.
The NDIS Worker Screening Check is valid for 5 years/the duration of your registration. It is a standardised national assessment for workers who work with people with a disability.
You can use it as many times as you need to across different employers, and once it’s approved, it is recognised nationally.
Who needs a NDIS Worker Screening Check
Under the NDIS, workers in risk-assessed roles for registered NDIS providers must have a NDIS Worker Screening Check. This includes:
- workers
- self-employed registered providers
- volunteers
- work experience students
- key personnel such as CEOs.
See the NDIS website for more information.
How to apply for a NDIS Worker Screening Check in Tasmania
To get a NDIS Worker Screening Check in Tasmania, you will need to:
- apply for a RWVP
- request a NDIS Worker Screening Check as part of your application/amendment application
- apply for either class of RWVP: an Employment/Volunteer class, or Volunteer only
- provide details of your NDIS employer: for example, such as ABN, Trading Name, or NDIS Employer ID. You cannot apply for a NDIS Worker Screening Check if you do not have a NDIS employer (see information below for self-employed people).
Once you have completed your application for a RWVP, it is sent to the NDIS Worker Screening Database (NWSD).
This database will send a verification to your employer, and ask them to verify your employment:
- if your employment is verified, your application will proceed
- if your employment is not verified, your application will not proceed. You will be notified if your employer has not verified your NDIS endorsement.
If you are self-employed
To obtain a NDIS worker screening clearance for yourself, you will need to complete these steps:
- request access as an employer to the NDIS Worker Screening Database. You can find step by step instructions in this NDIS guide. You will be issued with a NDIS employer ID number, which you will need to enter on your RWVP application form
- apply for a Tasmanian RWVP, and request a NDIS Worker Screening Check as part of your application. You will be able to select your organisation when prompted to do so, once the NDIS Commission has processed your registration
- verify your own employment and that you will be delivering NDIS supports or services.
A verification will then be sent to you via the NDIS Worker Screening Database.
Adding the NDIS Worker Screening Check to your existing RWVP
If you have an existing RWVP, you can apply to include a NDIS Worker Screening Check through your MyRWVP account. You will need to select ‘amend registration’.
If you hold a NDIS Worker Screening Check from another state
You do not need to apply for a RWVP in Tasmania if you already hold a NDIS Worker Screening Check issued by another state or territory.
The NDIS Worker Screening Check is nationally recognised, so you can use it to work or volunteer in the NDIS in Tasmania.
You can show your Tasmanian employer or volunteer organisation that you are eligible to work with NDIS by showing them your NDIS Worker Screening Check. They can also confirm this by logging on to their NDIS portal through the NDIS Worker Screening Database.
