Changing lives creating futures - A Strategic Plan for Corrections in Tasmania 2023

Changing lives, creating futures is the new Strategic Plan for Corrections in Tasmania.  It has been developed following extensive consultation with our Correctional staff and over 100 key stakeholders, including non-government organisations, service providers, Indigenous community groups and public agencies, as well as the experiences of the inmates and offenders who provided their own contributions.

The Plan continues a strong focus on rehabilitation and reintegration with a range of new frameworks and processes identified with an emphasis on stronger collaboration with our service partners.

The Plan outlines six strategic priorities in our Corrections system, namely to:

  • improve lives and reduce harm
  • invest in our people
  • build environments for change
  • close the gap
  • focus on safety
  • reshape our organisation to ensure we have the right environment to promote success, and career progression.

Implementation of the Plan will take some time and it has been structured in a way that allows us to focus on what can be achieved in a relatively short time frame and activities that need to be explored further and delivered in the longer term. This approach allows flexibility so we can adjust our activities as needed and review progress on a regular basis.

The new Plan builds on the work of the 2011 Breaking the Cycle (PDF, 591.2 KB) and 2016 Breaking the Cycle (PDF, 5.3 MB) plans and sets the framework for the next phase of work as part of our focus on continuous improvement.
