Intent of the program (Court Mandated Diversion)

Many offenders appearing in court face complex issues. Drug abuse can have significant impacts on individuals, their families and the community.

The Court Mandated Diversion (CMD) program aims to break the drug-crime cycle. It provides access to drug, alcohol, or other welfare services.

CMD helps offenders to deal with their drug use and break their contact cycle with the criminal justice system.

Other goals of the CMD program are to help offenders:

  • to acknowledge and address offending behaviour caused by drug abuse
  • improve physical and psychological wellbeing
  • in abstaining from drug use
  • develop relapse prevention strategies for long-term changes
  • prevent relapse into drug use and criminal behaviour
  • gain stability with their physical and mental health
  • build positive relationships with their family
  • become involved in the community through education, employment, and other pro-social activities
