EQUIPS Programs

Community Corrections delivers the Explore, Question, Understand, Investigate, Practice, Succeed (EQUIPS) suite of programs.

These programs target medium to high risk offenders, with a suite of three offence-specific programs in the areas of:

  • Addiction
  • Aggression
  • Domestic abuse

EQUIPS Addiction Program is for individuals assessed as having a high level of drug or alcohol abuse within the past twelve months. It addresses addictive behaviours.

EQUIPS Aggression Program is for males with a conviction for a violence-related offence. It aims to increase a participant's ability to manage difficult life events and minimise aggressive behaviour. The program is for offenders who have a pattern of aggressive behaviour, however those with family violence offences are not eligible for this program.

EQUIPS Domestic Abuse Program is for individuals convicted of family violence who are assessed as a medium risk of re-offending. This program focuses on addressing gendered violence.

EQUIPS trained facilitators deliver programs over a ten-week period. The program consists of two-hour sessions run twice per week. Each program caters for up to 12 participants.

Individuals engage in group activities and receive a copy of their own workbook.

People who are sentenced to take part in the program may be breached if:

  • they fail to attend
  • they do not participate appropriately in individual and group program activities

If someone is breached, their case is returned to Court where the Magistrate/Judge may reconsider their sentence.

EQUIPS programs are also available in a custodial setting. They are facilitated by the Tasmanian Prison Service.

EQUIPS was developed by Corrective Services NSW.
