Conditions of entry: in-person visits

All professional visitors (excluding Community Corrections, Legal Aid, Community Youth Justice, Custodial Inspector staff, Official Visitors and Ombudsman staff*) must:

hold either an approved TPS identification card or a temporary visitor pass
present valid photographic identification that includes your date of birth at each visit
provide a letter of employment dated within the past 12 months (for sole traders this can be the business name and ABN) stating that you are a current employee, that nature of the service(s) you will be providing, who you are visiting and the purpose of the visit
provide a police check dated within the past 12 months (excluding legal representatives)

*Professional visitors who are exempt from these conditions of entry, must present valid photographic identification ( DoJ or organisational ID card) at each visit.

A professional visitor may be refused entry to a prison if:

they fail to comply with the above conditions (in such cases, communications will be limited to Zoom or telephone appointments only)
they fail to make a booking
there are sufficient grounds to believe the visit may threaten the security of a prison or the safety of a visitor.

If you are a regular professional visitor to the prison, you are encouraged to apply for a yellow ID card, which is valid for a period of up to 12 months and will remove the need to continue to provide the above documents for the duration of that period.

There is no cost to apply for the TPS yellow ID card, but the cost of a National Police Certificate will be payable by the applicant(s).

If you do not visit regularly or are not eligible for a TPS ID card, you will require approval via a Temporary Visitor Pass before you attend the prison, every time you visit.
