About Community Correction Orders

The Court may give an offender a Community Correction Order.

A Community Correction Order:

  • allows the offender to remain in the community while serving their sentence
  • is made for a specific period not exceeding three years

Common conditions of a Community Correction Order are for offenders to attend supervision appointments with a Probation Officer, or complete Community Service hours.

Community Corrections supervises Community Correction Orders.

Order Conditions

Under a Community Correction Order an individual:

  • must not commit another offence for which they can go to prison
  • must report to Community Corrections on the day / place stated in the order
  • report as required and directed to their Probation Officer
  • follow any reasonable and lawful direction given by their Probation Officer or Community Service Supervisor
  • must not leave the State of Tasmania without permission from their Probation Officer
  • must give notice to their Probation Officer within two days if they move address or change their employment

The Court may impose special conditions that require an individual to:

  • appear before the Court as required
  • attend education or rehabilitative programs as directed by their Probation Officer
  • attend supervision appointments with their assigned Probation Office
  • perform Community Service hours
  • undergo assessment and treatment for drug or alcohol dependency
  • submit to substance testing
  • not consume alcohol
  • submit to medical, psychological or psychiatric assessment or treatment as directed by their Probation Officer
  • not associate with specific people
  • not be present at specific locations
  • abide by any other condition the Court thinks appropriate
