Commission for Children and Young People Recruitment Panel

Tasmanian young people (15-21 years) are invited to be a part of the recruitment of the Child Advocate at the new Commission for Children and Young People. This opportunity is for young people from all backgrounds and experiences, because the Commission will be there to support all children and young people.

The Commission for Children and Young People Recruitment Panel (the panel) will support the recruitment of two roles at the Commission over the next 12 months, the Commissioner for Children and Young People and the Child Advocate.  We encourage young Aboriginal Tasmanians to apply to be part this recruitment and the recruitment of the Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People which will also happen later in 2026.

A group of young people will be created to support the recruitment to the Commission so if you aren’t selected to be a member of the first panel, you may be called on to sit on future recruitment panels. All young people selected will have the opportunity to attend training about how to be a successful recruitment panel member.

We welcome your application to join the Panel, and we encourage all young Tasmanians aged 15-21 to apply.  We want to hear from a diverse range of young people.

How to apply

Complete the Application Form. The form asks you some questions about yourself and why you would like to be part of the panel.

Tip: Write your answers in a separate document first (like Notes or Word) and then copy them into the Application Form. This way you won’t lose your work if something goes wrong.

Can I use Video for my application?

Yes. You can provide a short video to answer the questions about yourself and why you would like to be part of the panel. Make sure you address all the questions in the Application Form as part of your video.

Will I be paid for my time

Yes. Each panel member will be paid vouchers to the value of $37 per hour for their time spent through the recruitment process. This will be around 10 hours and some hours will be on the weekend.

  • We understand that participation on the panel is voluntary.
  • We understand that we may withdraw from the panel at any time without reason or consequences.
  • We understand that while participating on the panel we will be exposed to confidential information about people applying for Commission for Children and Young People.

  • We will not use or share information about the people applying for Commission of Children and Young People roles other than authorised Department employees, and within the context of the panel only. We are aware that we may face legal action if we improperly disclose any information relating to candidates through this process.
