Tasmania's Plan for Closing the Gap 2025-2028

A beautiful, colourful artwork titled 'As We Journey Together' by Indigenous artist Emma RobertsonAs a signatory to the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, the Tasmanian Government committed to the four Priority Reforms:

  1. Formal partnerships and shared decision-making.
  2. Building the community-controlled sector.
  3. Transforming government organisations.
  4. Sharing access to data and information at a regional level.

It is recognised that closing the gap in life outcomes between Tasmanian Aboriginal people and the whole Tasmanian community will only be achieved when Aboriginal people are genuine partners in the design and delivery of policy, programs and services that are relevant to them.

Further details on how the Tasmanian Government will strengthen relationships and deliver on actions that are directly related to the target outcomes are included in Tasmania’s Plan for Closing the Gap 2025–2028.

Engaging well with Aboriginal people is an important element of transforming government organisations, one of the four priority reforms the Tasmanian Government has committed to under Closing the Gap.

To support this, a Guide to Aboriginal Engagement in Tasmania (the Guide), has been developed by the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

The Guide is an important tool for continuing to create respectful, effective partnerships and communication between government organisations and Aboriginal people and organisations.
