When prisoners arrive at prison they are 'received' into custody.
Detailed information is obtained from them, and a range of assessments and interviews are conducted.
Property held by a prisoner on arrival is stored (in locked storage areas) by the Prison Service until the prisoner is released.
Each new prisoner is provided with clothing, bedding and a toiletries pack, and is allocated to a specific cell. Sometimes it is necessary for two prisoners to share a cell until single cells become available.
