Expressions of interest are now open from suitably qualified persons for appointment as puisne judge of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.
The qualifications for appointment are set out in detail in section 4 of the Supreme Court Act 1887 (Tas). Candidates are sought who:
- are an Australian lawyer of no less than 10 years' standing who has attained the age of 35 years; or
- are or have been a judge of the Federal or Family Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of another State or Territory, or the Supreme or High Court of New Zealand; or
- are or have been a magistrate appointed under the Magistrates Court Act 1987.
The appointment will be made on a full-time basis.
