Expressions of interest are now open from suitably qualified persons for appointment as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The Office of the DPP is established by section 3 of the Director of Public Prosecutions Act 1973 (the Act). The primary function of the DPP is to:
- determine whether to institute proceedings on behalf of the State against a person for an offence or a crime on indictment and,
- if so, conduct those proceedings.
To be considered for appointment to this role, a candidate must be an Australian lawyer of not less than 7 years’ standing as a practitioner.
