The Tasmanian Government has released the final report from the Third Party Review of Backlogs in the Tasmanian Court System (the Review). The Review was commissioned by the Attorney-General to examine the factors contributing to delays in Tasmania's courts and identify practical opportunities to improve the timely progression and resolution of matters.
Undertaken by Mr Lloyd Babb SC, the Review focused on the criminal justice system and included extensive consultation with justice sector stakeholders. The final report contains 20 recommendations aimed at reducing court backlog, improving timeliness, and supporting the earlier resolution of criminal matters.
The Review's final report was provided to the Attorney-General on 30 June 2026 and will help inform future reforms and system improvements across Tasmania's justice sector.
