The Tasmanian Government has commissioned an independent review of the governance and operations of the Parole Board of Tasmania. The Review is being undertaken by KordaMentha.
The Review will assess the adequacy and effectiveness of the governance, systems and procedures supporting the Board’s parole decision-making functions. It will examine governance and accountability arrangements, how information is prepared and scrutinised, and how decisions are reached and recorded. This includes consideration of inaccurate or unreliable material generated using artificial intelligence being presented to the Board.
The Review will recommend any reforms required to strengthen the Board’s operations, transparency and public accountability, and maintain public confidence in parole decision-making.
The Review will respect the Board’s statutory independence and provide a final report to the Attorney-General and the Secretary of the Department of Justice.
