The Tasmanian Government has opened the Historical Forced Adoption Redress Scheme (the Scheme) for mothers who were pressured or compelled to give up their babies for adoption. This took place in Tasmania up until 1988. These practices caused, and continue to cause, deep and lasting harm to all those affected. The Scheme aims to recognise the impact on mothers.
The Scheme offers a payment of $75,000 and a personal apology.
Further information is available at Historical Forced Adoption Redress Scheme.
