The Tasmanian Law Reform Institute (TLRI) is reviewing the Coroners Act 1995 (Tas) and related rules, procedures and practices of the Magistrates Court (Coronial Division).
Commissioned by the Attorney-General, the review is seeking feedback from people who have interacted with the coronial system to better understand their experiences and identify opportunities for improvement.
How to participate
There are several ways that community members can share their views, including:
- completing an online anonymous survey
- participating in an in-person consultation
- these consultations will be conducted by clinical psychologists from the University of Tasmania's School of Psychological Sciences
- recording an anonymous phone message.
Feedback received through the consultation will help inform the review and identify opportunities for future reform.

Responding to the Issues Paper
As part of the consultation process, the Institute has also released an Issues Paper that examines the operation of the coronial system, from the commencement of an investigation through to the coroner's findings and recommendations.
TLRI is seeking a broad range of perspectives and invites community members, experts, government bodies and other stakeholders to provide a written submission in response to the Issues Paper.
