The Government is inviting young people to play a central role in shaping the future of children’s advocacy in Tasmania, following the passage of the Commission for Children and Young People Act 2025.
The legislation requires that children and young people are actively involved in selecting the leadership of the Commission for Children and Young People. In response, the Government will establish a Youth Selection Panel to ensure that the voices, perspectives and lived experiences of young Tasmanians are at the heart of the appointment process.
The Government is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from Tasmanians aged between 16-21 to be a member of the Commission for Children and Young People Youth Selection Panel to help select who the new Commissioner for Children and Young People will be.
The Youth Selection Panel will work alongside a senior selection panel providing a unique opportunity for young Tasmanians to decide who will champion their rights, safety and wellbeing.
Participation on the panel will also equip young people with valuable experience and skills, supporting their future education and employment pathways.
The Tasmanian Government encourages young people from diverse backgrounds and communities across the State to apply. Further EOI processes will be undertaken to support the recruitment of the Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People and the Child Advocate later in 2026.
