Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework Advisory Panels

The Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework is shaped by several advisory panels representing people with lived experience of child sexual abuse in institutional settings, businesses, clubs, associations, local government, non-government schools and Government Agencies.

Lived Experience Advisory Panel

People with lived experience have an incomparable understanding of child sexual abuse in institutional settings.

What is the Lived Experience Advisory Panel?

The Lived Experience Advisory Panel is a group of people with lived experience of child sexual abuse in institutional settings.

This group advises and informs the development and implementation of the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework.

Consulting with victim-survivors helps the Tasmanian Government in its effort to craft the strongest possible policy for protecting children and young people from harm in institutional settings in Tasmania.

Members of the panel are paid for their time, contributions, and expenses related to their participation.

What are members of the Lived Experience Advisory Panel expected to do?

Members of the Lived Experience Advisory Panel are expected to:

  • take part in face-to-face or online meetings
  • do short activities designed to test ways the Framework could work and be implemented at the meetings
  • do occasional surveys.

Panel members won’t be expected to:

  • share their personal story or experiences (though they may do so if they wish)
  • use their full or real name to participate in the panel, if they don't want to.

How many people are on the Lived Experience Advisory Panel?

The Lived Experience Advisory Panel includes up to 10 members who are:

  • victim-survivors of child sexual abuse in institutional settings in Tasmania
  • and/or their family members or friends who are victim-survivor advocates.

Other victim-survivors of child sexual abuse in institutional settings who are now living in Tasmania may also be invited to participate.

Panel members are invited to join the panel for the life of the project (up to three years), but they can take breaks or withdraw from at any time.

Is the Lived Experience Advisory Panel the only way victim-survivors can contribute?

No. People with lived experience are welcome — and encouraged — to contribute to any public consultation undertaken as part of the Framework’s creation and implementation.

The views and feedback of the Lived Experience Advisory Panel will be considered alongside the views and feedback of the other advisory panels, research findings, and the experience of other States and Territories.
