Victims Assistance Unit

The Victims Assistance Unit (VAU) administers the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 1976 and support the Criminal Injuries Compensation Commissioners in finalising awards. It allows for the payment of costs of medical, counselling and support services, as well as compensation for pain and suffering, loss of income, to victims of violent crime or certain sexual offences where the victim has suffered an injury or death.
