Going to court

Victims Support Services can provide information to victims of crime regarding current court matters, including:

  • the date that the matter is listed in court
  • the current status of the matter
  • whether the offender has been remanded in custody or released on bail
  • details of any conditions of such bail

For assistance with family violence matters please contact Court Support and Liaison Service.

For all other matters, the Victims of Crime Service provides a free court support service, where victims can arrange for a Victims of Crime Service counsellor to accompany them to court for support.

The Victims of Crime Service can also provide free counselling, and can help the victim to prepare for testifying in court, which can often be a difficult experience.

Once the matter has been finalised by the courts, and if the offender has been given a custodial sentence, the victim will be invited to register on the Eligible Persons Register.

For further information about going to court, please see court information for adults and court information for children.
