Parole Board Decision

Reason for Decision

On 20 July 2007 the Applicant was convicted of breach of bail.

The Applicant was sentenced to a period of imprisonment of 18 months with a non-parole period of 12 months.

The Applicant is eligible for parole on 20 January 2008.

On 11 January 2008 the Parole Board granted parole for the following reasons, taking into account the statutory criteria pursuant to the Corrections Act 1997:

  • The Applicant has satisfactory accommodation and the support of other family members. The birth of his child appears to have given the applicant a new outlook on life. The Applicant has informed old acquaintances that he is pursuing a new life in a different direction.
  • The Applicant has expressed a desire to obtain employment in seasonal harvesting.
  • The Applicant has a satisfactory prison record and has voluntarily completed the ‘Getting Smart’ program and ‘Talking up Change’ with a good report of his involvement during the former program from the Program Facilitator.’
  • The Board has taken into account the Pre Sentence Report dated 12 July 2007 and an Addendum to that as the Pre-Parole Report dated 17 December, 2007
  • It is the Parole Board’s belief that the Applicant’s rehabilitation will be better served out in the community. There will be restrictions placed on the Applicant with regard to alcohol and drugs.
