Parole Board Decision

In the matter of the Corrections Act 1997

and

In the matter of an Application for Parole by Stephen James Williams

10 November 2006

Reason for Decision

The Board notes that on the 9 March 2006 the applicant was granted parole in relation to the following offences:

Aggravated burglary twelve counts, burglary eight counts, stealing eighteen counts, Receiving stolen property two counts, destroyed property one count, aggravated burglary one count, injure/destroy property one count and a further two counts of aggravated burglary.

You were on parole until the 25 August 2006 when the Board met and revoked your parole as a result of receiving information that you had failed a drug test. You’ve been back in custody since the 25 August 2006.

The Board has been provided with an updated pre-parole report, which indicates that notwithstanding the fact that you’d previously revoked your parole there is every indication that you will successfully complete a further period of parole.

As a result of your drug use you have served a further four months of a sentence of imprisonment, which had been imposed upon you. You’ve indicated to the Board that that’s a stark reminder to yourself that should there be any further breaches of your parole that you expect you would be returned to prison and you’re now fully aware of the powers that the Board have in that regard.

In all of the circumstances the Board’s taken into account the pre-parole report, your prison record which has been described as exemplary of late and your prior convictions. The Board is of the view that you should be granted a further period of parole and you will be so paroled.

Paroled 21/11/06 – 08/07/08
