Parole Board Decision

In the matter of the Corrections Act 1997

and

In the matter of an Application for Parole by Christopher Ronald Welsh

9 May 2006

Reason for Decision:

The applicant is presently in custody in relation to the following offences:

(a) Aggravated Burglary x2

(b) Stealing x5

(c) Receiving stolen property

(d) Injure property

(e) Aggravated Assault

In relation to all matters the applicant received a total sentence of imprisonment of 23 months and was not eligible to be considered for parole until serving 18 months of that sentence. The applicant has therefore been eligible to be considered for parole since 18May 2006.

The applicant’s earliest release date from prison is 18July 2006.

The Board has been provided with documentation, which fully outlines the circumstances surrounding the applicants offending.

The Board has received advice from the victim’s assistance unit that no offender is registered in relation to the applicant’s offending.

In considering the applicant’s application for parole the Board has taken the following matters into account:

(a)The pre parole report prepared by his probation officer

(b) The applicant’s prison record

(c) The applicants prior convictions

The Board notes that the applicant has furthered his education whilst in prison by undertaking a number of courses. He has prospects of employment upon his release from prison.

He will be residing with his adult step children upon his release . The Board is of the view that they will be a positive influence upon the applicant.

The Board is of the view that the applicant meets the statutory criteria to be granted parole and accordingly will be granted parole.
