In 2018, an evaluation was undertaken of the Tasmanian Legal Assistance Sector. The evaluation considered the appropriateness of the current funding allocations and services delivered by the Tasmanian legal assistance sector, and provides recommendations to ensure that the sector is equipped to provide assistance to the greatest number of Tasmanians, particularly those who are disadvantaged or in need.
The evaluation was overseen by a Steering Committee consisting of representatives from the Department of Justice, the Department of Treasury and Finance and representatives nominated by the Tasmanian legal assistance sector. The Steering Committee provided strategic guidance and support and made key decisions as part the evaluation.
A submission process for the evaluation was held between 9 May and 31 October 2018.
