Prison Official Visitor

The Government of Tasmania is seeking expressions of interest from people with relevant experience who wish to be considered for appointment as Prison Official Visitors. Prison Official Visitors conduct a regular program of visits to all prisons in Tasmania. This expression of interest is for Prison Official Visitors to conduct visits in the south of the State. Prison Official Visitors inquire into the treatment, behaviour and conditions of prisoners and detainees, as well as receiving and investigating individual complaints.

Prison Official Visitors are appointed for a period of three years, receive remuneration at a rate of $25 per hour, and are reimbursed reasonable expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.

The Prison Official Visitors Scheme is administered by the Office of the Ombudsman and Health Complaints Commissioner.

Please note that any potential appointee will be required to undertake a criminal history check

Persons lodging an expression of interest are asked to provide a curriculum vitae outlining relevant areas of experience and interest, and to provide any additional information to support their expression of interest (including the names and contact details of two referees).
