Magistrate – Hobart

The Government of Tasmania is seeking expressions of interest from experienced legal practitioners who wish to be considered for appointment as a permanent full-time magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Tasmania.

The appointee will be based in Hobart however applicants should be aware that the Magistrates Court is a state-wide service. The appointee will be required to sit from time to time in other locations as required by the Chief Magistrate.

To be eligible for appointment, a candidate must be an Australian lawyer within the meaning of the Legal Profession Act 2007 of not less than 5 years' standing as an Australian legal practitioner. A person is not eligible for appointment as a magistrate if he or she has attained the age of 72 years.


Persons lodging an expression of interest are asked to provide a curriculum vitae and the names of three professional and confidential referees.
