Community Partnerships
Community Corrections supports offenders by working with a wide range of community-based organisations.
We are more effective in addressing offender risk factors and reducing re-offending when we work together.
Community Corrections has support from a range of other stakeholders, including:
- the Courts and Parole Board
- Tasmanian Prison Service
- Community Sector Organisations
- Tasmania Police
- other Government agencies
Effective relationships with external stakeholders lead to better offender management through:
- information sharing and referrals
- improved assessments, and
- more effective responses to non-compliance with an order
Using stakeholder expertise to address the factors associated with offending is vital for breaking the crime cycle. Common factors include:
- homelessness
- unemployment
- mental illness
- substance abuse issues, and
- relationship problems
Community Corrections strives to:
- develop partnerships with organisations interested in supporting and rehabilitating offenders, and
- improve existing stakeholder relations
