Community Partnerships

Community Corrections supports offenders by working with a wide range of community-based organisations.

We are more effective in addressing offender risk factors and reducing re-offending when we work together.

Community Corrections has support from a range of other stakeholders, including:

  • the Courts and Parole Board
  • Tasmanian Prison Service
  • Community Sector Organisations
  • Tasmania Police
  • other Government agencies

Effective relationships with external stakeholders lead to better offender management through:

  • information sharing and referrals
  • improved assessments, and
  • more effective responses to non-compliance with an order

Using stakeholder expertise to address the factors associated with offending is vital for breaking the crime cycle. Common factors include:

  • homelessness
  • unemployment
  • mental illness
  • substance abuse issues, and
  • relationship problems

Community Corrections strives to:

  • develop partnerships with organisations interested in supporting and rehabilitating offenders, and
  • improve existing stakeholder relations
