Retail Leases Bill 2022 - Have your say
The Tasmanian Government is committed to providing opportunities for community involvement in the development and review of legislation and Government policy and we are seeking your input on the new Retail Leases Bill 2022.
The Retail Leases Bill 2022 has been drafted following a comprehensive review of retail leases legislation in Tasmania, which commenced with a preliminary round of consultation in 2019. In light of this prior consultation, the Retail Leases Bill 2022 has been drafted to modernise Tasmania’s regulation of retail lease arrangements, including provisions relating to disclosure requirements for lease negotiations, methods for the calculation of rent and provisions regarding the resolution or mediation of disputes.
The Retail Leases Bill 2022 will replace the existing Fair Trading (Code of Practice for Retail Tenancies) Regulations 1998 which are due to be repealed on 1 January 2023.
