Tasmanian State Architect

Peter Poulet is Tasmania's first State Architect.

Mr Poulet has over 20 years experience in Australia and Japan in private and government architectural offices. 

Previously, in his role as assistant Government Architect in NSW he was involved in brief preparation, master planning, feasibility studies, deisgn and documentation of major projects.

"It is my intention to engage with the community of stakeholders to give them a voice in how the built and urban environment is shaped in Tasmania into the 21st century, Mr Poulet says."

"I am keen to make the best of the talent and ideas that are here."

"This is an exciting opportunity to literally shape our future and make places which are well designed and provide everyone, including future generations, with a good quality of life."

 Role of the State Architect

  • Advocate quality design and sustainable built outcomes across the State of Tasmania.
  • Provide strategic and independent advice to Government on matters relating to planning, urban design, architecture and heritage.
  • Form collaborative working relationships with State agencies and stakeholder groups to develop a shared vision of the built environment
  • Develop best practice guidelines to create better and more sustainable urban environments and buildings.
