Letters and phone calls

It's important to keep in touch with family and friends who go to prison.

You can write letters to prisoners - and you can send cards, photos and drawings. Mail sent and received by prisoners is checked by staff to make sure people don't send things which aren't allowed. Here's a link to more information about what you can send in the mail.

When you write a letter to a prisoner, tell them all about what you've been doing - maybe there are things happening at school or in your neighborhood, or maybe you can write about your pets, or your friends. You might even want to write a story or send something that you've written at school.

Prisoners are allowed to make phone calls but they aren't allowed to receive phone calls from family and friends outside prison. There are certain times of the day when prisoners are allowed to make phone calls - more information.
