The Director of Prisons manages the statewide Prison Service in Tasmania.

Corporate Services also includes a team of maintenance staff who are responsible for facility and equipment maintenance throughout the organisation.
Custodial Services includes custodial managers and staff at all Tasmanian prison facilities (Hobart, Risdon, Hayes and Launceston), and also includes some administrative staff who provide support within prisons.
Custodial officers are responsible for managing prisoners in a safe and secure environment, and for providing prisoners with opportunities for rehabilitation and personal development.

The role of the Organisational Development team is to prepare a strategic framework for the transition from the existing Risdon Prison complex to the facilities provided by the Prisons Infrastructure Redevelopment Program.
The Organisational Development program includes five key projects aimed at developing new operational protocols that encompass contemporary corrections management; developing a new model of offender management and significant training and development for Prison Service staff.
