Media enquiries

In accordance with the Corrections Act 1997, there are restrictions on the type of information that can be released about prisoners, prison facilities and specific security matters.

Requests for media access to information relating to prisoners or prison facilities in Tasmania are handled in accordance with the legislation and Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) Director's Standing Orders (DSO's), and in particular DSO 5.06 Media Access (PDF, 356.3 KB).

The TPS is a division of the Department of Justice. All media enquiries should be directed to the Department.

If a media representative wishes to interview a prisoner or a prisoner wishes to participate in an interview or other media activity, a written application must be submitted using the Media Request Form (DOC, 84.5 KB).
