Once farmers have obtained a contract to grow pharmaceutical poppies from one of the processing companies, they then need to apply for a licence that is issued by the Government of Tasmania.
Prospective growers must complete an "Application for Licence to Grow Papaver Somniferum" available from the Poppy Advisory and Control Board (PACB) or from the processing companies.
A police check of any court convictions, particularly in respect of drug related matters, will be required for all new growers with follow up checks required every five years.
