Parole Board Decision

In the matter of the Corrections Act 1997

and

In the matter of an Application for Parole by Janine Lynette Thompson

9 July 2004

Reason for Decision

(GIVEN ORALLY UPON HEARING APPLICATION)

Ms Thompson, you were convicted of robbery, aggravated robbery and attempted robbery on the 26th October 1999. All serious offences.

You have been granted parole previously and I am not going to repeat the reasons why the previous Parole Board granted you parole. You come before us today because you breached your parole in December 2003 and your parole was revoked in December 2003.

There has been a considerable delay between the revocation of your parole and the reconsideration. This delay has been caused as the result of outstanding Police matters which have now been resolved. You finished up spending nearly eight months imprisonment for a breach of parole.

We think that you have now well and truly learnt your lesson, that is that, if you take drugs and breach your parole conditions again you will come back before us and have your parole revoked.

The Board’s view is that you have learnt from your time in prison and you are unlikely to commit any further breaches.

We are going to grant you parole again, and that will be effective from 20th July, 2004.

You will be released on parole on the 20th July, 2004 and remain on parole until the 23rd March, 2007.
