Parole Board Decision

In the matter of the Corrections Act 1997

and

In the matter of an Application for Parole by Damien William Harris

22 July 2005

Reason for Decision

You were convicted of robbery with aggravation, burglary, stealing, aggravated burglary and stealing between the 2nd August 2002 and 15th April 2005 and were sentenced to a total of three years eleven months in prison.

You were granted parole on the 27th August 2004 and your parole was revoked for driving offences and having drugs in your system on the 11th February 2005.

The reasons for which we gave you parole on the 27th August 2004 are still relevant and I will not repeat those reasons but principally you were granted parole because it was thought by the Parole Board that you had a good family support and you had the opportunity of obtaining employment. Those factors remain relevant today. We are prepared to grant your parole again as from the 2nd August 2005.

We have considered all the factors set out in the Corrections Act. You have now formed a relationship with a single mother with three children and that relationship will probably have a steadying influence upon you. We believe that you have now learnt your lesson as a result of your breach of parole and are likely to obey your parole conditions.

We think that you should make every effort to undergo some appropriate course at TAFE, a tradesman’s course, to enable you to get some qualifications which will help you in employment but more importantly to give you something to occupy your days whilst you are on parole and between work.
