A properly completed application form should take approximately 6 weeks. An incomplete application form or one that requires further investigation will take longer and the delay will depend on what information is needed. You are unable to work or operate within the security industry without a current licence identification card.

Yes. If your licence application is to be refused you will receive a letter from the Department of Justice setting out the reasons for the decision. You have the right to apply to the Magistrates Court (Administrative Appeals Division) for a review of the decision.
No. You can apply for a Tasmanian licence under Mutual Recognition provided your interstate licence is current and authorises you to perform the equivalent activities.
No. Applicants complete either an Application for an Employee Licence form (pdf, 257.2 KB) or an Application for an Agent Individual Licence form (pdf, 269.9 KB) and complete the Mutual Recognition section.
There are differences in security agent legislation in each State or Territory of Australia. Each state government requires a licence to be issued to authorise employment in the security agent industry.
Yes. If you hold a current full licence, a pre-printed re-application notice will be sent to the last address provided to Consumer, Building and Occupational Services approximately 8 weeks before your licence expires.
If you have a provisional licence you will receive notification and an application form. You must supply a copy of your completed training certificates with the application.

At least 6 weeks before the expiry date. This is to avoid your licence expiring before the new licence is issued. The re-application notice shows the date your licence is due to expire. Once the expiry date has passed the notice is no longer valid and you will have to lodge a new application.

Yes. You will be classed as a new applicant and will need to meet the training requirements for any activities you wish to undertake.
No. You can cancel your licence at any time however you will not get a refund.
Yes. A licence can be cancelled if the licence holder is undertaking or has undertaken any activity that makes them unsuitable to hold a licence.
