Monetary Penalties Enforcement Project

The Monetary Penalties Enforcement project (MPEP) is a major cross-Government project to reform Tasmania's fines enforcement and collection process.

Stage one was agreement on a new framework for the collection and enforcement of monetary penalties and the development of new Monetary Penalties Enforcement legislation.

The proposed legislation will contain a range of new and more effective mechanisms for the enforcement of unpaid court fines, infringement notices, restitution and compensation orders, and orders for court costs.

Stage two was the development of a business case for redevelopment of monetary penalties enforcement in Tasmania.

Stage three is the implementation of the new processes for enforcement of monetary penalties. MPEP is currently in this stage.
