Pre-parole reports

The Parole Board requests pre-parole reports from Community Corrections.

A prisoner may be eligible for parole if their sentence is more than six months and the Magistrate or Judge gave a date when parole could be applied for at the time of sentencing to prison.

If the Magistrate of Judge did not give a date when parole could be applied for, the prisoner cannot apply for parole.

Prior to writing pre-parole reports, Probation Officers conduct in depth interviews with the prisoner. Pre-parole reports include information on the offender's:

  • family background and other relationships
  • education and employment
  • financial situation
  • health
  • alcohol and drug use
  • accommodation
  • previous offending behaviour and the current offence
  • actions to address offending behaviour

A recommendation to the Parole Board that either supports or does not support the Prisoner's application for parole is also included.
