Community Service supervision

A Probation Officer will organise a project site for the offender to attend. They take into account both the community and an offender's safety, health, work skills and availability.

The type of work done can vary enormously.

Project sites provide outdoor, physical work such as gardening or lawn mowing or indoor tasks such as sorting for charity organisations.

A Community Service Supervisor will make regular visits to project sites. They will check attendance and behaviour and liaise with offenders and organisations about their needs.

Community service allows the offender to pay back the community for their offending behaviour. It enables the offender to develop and improve work-related skills.

If an offender fails to comply with the conditions of their Order, they can be returned to Court, where the Magistrate or Judge may reconsider their original sentence.
