Community service order suitability assessment

At the request of a magistrate or judge, an offender is assessed for suitability to do community service.

Some basic criteria for suitability are that a project be available and that the person is:

  • physically able to work
  • available to work

Factors taken into account in the assessment include health, transport, employment, study, childcare arrangements and offending history.

Offenders who have a bad record of violent behaviour, for instance, would not be assessed as being suitable.
