Sentencing amendment legislation

The Government is seeking your feedback on the Sentencing Amendment (Phasing Out Of Suspended Sentences) Bill 2017.

The Bill proposes the following changes to the Sentencing Act 1997:

  • The addition of home detention orders and community correction orders as sentencing orders.
  • The removal of community service orders and probation orders as sentencing orders.
  • The removal of suspended sentences of imprisonment as a sentencing option for certain offences and for offenders who breach suspended sentences of imprisonment.
