Tasmania allows partners entering a Deed of Relationship to have a ceremony to formally recognise and celebrate the commencement of their Deed of Relationship.
Partners who wish to have a formal ceremony are able to nominate to the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages the day on which they intend to hold that ceremony, and their Deed will be registered on that day. Please note, the ceremony must be at least 28 days after the application to register a Deed of Relationship is lodged.
Partners may also incorporate a ceremonial decorative certificate in their formal ceremony. They are able to nominate a celebrant to receive the decorative certificate on their behalf. The celebrant is chosen by the partners and can be anyone they wish. The celebrant then oversees the signing and conferral of the certificate to the partners, before witnesses.
The following information is completed on the day of the ceremony:
Refer to Certificates section for examples of the ceremonial certificates.
