How to apply for a certificate


Applications can be lodged in person at Service Tasmania.  You will need to:

Payment can be made by:

  • cash (in person only)
  • cheque (personal cheques not accepted for the priority service)
  • money order
  • credit card (full card number, expiry date and card holders' name must be supplied)

How long will it take to process?

Applications for non urgent searches will be processed within 5 working days from when the form is received at the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.  Please note, processing time may increase during peak periods.


Priority service

For an additional fee, a priority (same day) service is available for marriage certificates at the following locations:

  • Service Tasmania Hobart, Launceston, Burnie, Devonport, Huonville, Scottsdale and Sorell
