How to Apply

Applications can be lodged in person at Service Tasmania

You will need to:

If you are unable to visit a Service Tasmania shop you may post your application to Births, Deaths and Marriages:

Payment can be made by:

  • cash (in person only)
  • Cheque (personal cheques not accepted for the priority service)
  • money order
  • credit card (full card number, expiry date and card holder's name must be supplied)

How long will it take to process?

Applications for non urgent searches will be processed within 10 working days from when the form is received at the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. Please note, processing time may increase during peak periods.

Remember to add postage time from Births Deaths & Marriages (can be up to 6 business days via Australia Post)

Priority Service

For an additional fee a priority (same day) service is available and certificates can be printed at the following locations:

  • Service Tasmania Hobart, Launceston, Burnie, Devonport, Huonville, Scottsdale and Sorell.

Priority applications lodged at other Service Tasmania outlets will be processed on the same day and mailed to the applicant.

Personal cheques are not accepted for the priority service.
