Deaths outside Tasmania

If a person dies during a flight to Tasmania or on a ship travelling to a port in Tasmania, the death may be registered in Tasmania. 

Deaths Overseas

• The Registrar-General's Office (Canberra) is responsible for the registration of Australian citizens who die overseas.
• An Australian Embassy or Consulate in the country where the death occurred may also complete registrations.
• To register a death overseas you need to complete an application form and lodge it with original documentation to the Registrar-General's Office.
